Mowe 1267101 Mowe Naval A monochrome patriotic art postcard featuring the German surface raider Mowe "at work", sinking a sailing ship. Art is by Blossfeld and dated 1916. The Mowe was built in 1914 as the refrigerated cargo ship Pungo for F. Laeisz. She was requisitioned in 1915, renamed Mowe and became firstly a minelayer and then a surface raider. She survived the WW1 and became the Greenbrier for Elders & Fyffes. Extremely light corner and edge wear. Sime surface silvering of the illustration to the front, otherwise extremely light marking. Rio Grande Do Sul, Bahia, Minas Gerais 1238301 Rio Grande Do Sul, Bahia, Minas Gerais Naval A real photo postcard by A.E.C. featuring three Brazilian warships under construction at the shipyard of Armstrong, Whitworth & Co, Elswick, Newcastle on Tyne. The vessel nearest the camera on the outside is the Rio Grande Do Sul, launched in April 1909 and completed in 1910. Inboard of her is her sistership the cruise Bahia, launched in January 1909 and completed in 1910. Furthest from the camera on the left of the photo is the battleship Minas Gerais, launched in September 1908 and completed in January 1910. Light corner and edge wear with a small surface crinkle on the top right corner and an area on the bottom edge near the bottom right corner where the surface of the card has come away.
