SMS Zenta / SMS Ulan 1307101 SMS Zenta / SMS Ulan Naval A patriotic art postcard issued by the Red Cross / Osterr Flottenverein, featuring a view of the "Heroic defence of the Zenta and Ulan against the combined French and English fleets". The Austro-Hungarian SMS Zenta was lost to a greatly superior force of French ships in the Battle of Antivari in August 1914, as she allowed her consort, the destroyer SMS Ulan, the opportunity to escape. The reverse has a cancelled Victorian stamp attached with a W.D. 10 Liverpool postmark dated 8th May 189?, which I think belongs to a floating post office for steamer passengers. the card however shows no signs of being written or posted, so the stamp may have been added later?
